In the cold of winter, sometimes I bundle up and take a walk. Walk uphill, gain elevation, take note of things on the ground, ponder things under the ground, maybe put myself on the ground, and stare at the gray, dark sky.
Since my last update:
I’ve been working, as always, and so burnt out. I’ve spent much of my free time job hunting and sending more applications than I can count. Please send any interesting well-paid opportunities my way (PDX metro or remote), and/or tell me about a job your love and why I might love it too ;)
I made a book with coptic binding after a friend took a class, showed me hers, and explained how she did it. I definitely have some research to do in this regard but I’m excited to make more books and learn more about this vast artform.
I said no to a knitting commission, because I’m not inspired to knit for other people at this point.
I’m spending less time on my phone. And if I’m staring at that blasted screen, trying to be actually engaging with real people or sharing useful resources.
My art is showing in agroup showat the East Portland Community Center! Go see it if you’re local (Feb 2-23)! There will be aclosing receptionon February 23 to meet some of the artists and join up with a great local group of natural dyers. Find me there!
What I’m working on:
Slowly, slowly, making a quilt for myself.
Many quilts in progress, mostly gifts, to continue flitting around as a quilt fairy.
Reading more, and getting back into fiction. Utilizing my library a lot.
Keeping up with the utter shitstorm that is current events. Ughhh. Free Palestine, Fuck ICE, Trans Rights are Human Rights, Abortion is Health Care. Get in on some mutual aid wherever you are. We all need each other more than ever.
A place to shop for secondhand fabric and textile supplies. My first listings are live and there will be more to come! So much of the waste that we produce, especially in this country is textiles and there’s no need to make any more. We already have what we need. I am always scavenging and salvaging supplies and now I have a place to help rehome them.
What I’m enjoying:
Noticing: How the crows do a quick crouch in anticipation of lifting off the ground.
Reading:The Book Woman of Troublesome Creekby Kim Michele Richardson &The World Needs Your Next Quiltby Zak Foster
Listening:Wildfiresby SAULT;How Many Timesby Bob Marley & The Wailers
Tasting: Grits and greens; roasted winter squash scooped from the skin and mixed in a bowl with butter, cinnamon and maple syrup: basically baby food but it’s delicious.
