Busy stitching and being outside - Dusty feet and natural dyes [Newsletter]

Since my last update:

• We've been hiking a lot, there are so many alpine streams and waterfalls to see and submerge in! I always carry a project (or two or three!) with me, catch me stitching atop a ridge or under a basalt overhang.
• I finished the above tiny quilt, stitched entirely by hand. I made many of these stitches on hikes in various part of Oregon and Washington. I'm dreaming up full size bed quilt with this method soon too!

What I’m working on:

• A chat with a dear creative friend got me so pumped to get really focused on some projects that have been marinating in my mind.
• Practicing garment making, but I get a little impatient with patterns, go rogue and it ends up being slower, with more trial and error.
• A friend invited me to share a booth with her at a local market coming up, so I've been pulling together some goodies to offer there. You can grab something special, like a naturally dyed checkers set with carry pouch and some local honey from the bees my friend has been tending! August 16 at Symbiop Garden Shop's Harvest Market, 10am-3pm.

What I’m enjoying:

• Noticing: Relativity of scale: I went to the zoo with my niece and nephew last week and found myself giggling because the baby elephant is SO TINY, even though it's bigger than me! I don't love zoos in general but the kids had fun and the baby elephant was really special to witness.
• Reading: The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair.
• Listening: Koop Island Blues by Koop and Ane Brun.
• Tasting: Posole with hatch chiles and roast pork. I made this for my friend's brothday and I should make it more often. *Brothday = celebration of your birth in the opposite season of your birth, customarily celebrated by indulging in rich broth(s).

Where to find me / how to support:

• Come hang out with me this Sunday at the Columbia Park from 10am-1pm. I'll be gathering with a bunch of other local folks who are excited about natural dyes,
• Shop for quilty goodies on August 16 at Symbiop Garden Shop's Harvest Market, 10am-3pm. Javi will be tending the booth while I'm at work, say hi to her and get some of her local honey too!
• Come dance with me on my birthday at Balkanalia! The whole camp is so fun, but you can also come just for an evening party to enjoy the live music.
